FAQ
The basics
What is Wick Folk?
A crypto-lore MMORPG with MOBA-style combat, played in your browser and built by a solo dev. What happens on chain shakes up the world: when a Solana coin starts catching volume, it crashes into a nearby town as a boss, or it tears open a rift you can fight through for rare loot. Be prepared. See the game at a glance.
Can I play right now?
Yes. The free alpha runs in your browser on desktop or phone, with no wallet and no download. Play the free alpha ↗
Do I have to connect my wallet?
No. You can play the whole alpha without one. Signing in on this site is optional; if you want, Privy sign-in lets you manage your wallets in one place.
Who’s building this?
A, a solo dev and trencher. He burned hours scanning new coins, found nothing on chain worth doing every day and no game that fit, so he’s building one. Read the founder story, and see every release on the updates page.
Pay-to-win?
No. Drops only come from playing and the odds are public. Spending never buys power, and tradeable gear has a hard cap on how much stronger it can be than gear anyone can find. More on loot & economy.
Where it’s going
Where is this heading?
Toward a persistent world that traders and trenchers check every day, moving with the chain and Crypto Twitter. Today it’s one solo dev shipping alpha after alpha; the goal is to become the go-to MMORPG for AI and trading. Follow along on the updates page.
The world
Where is the game set?
In Hashmere. Every kin starts in Kindlewick, the lantern-lit hub. The Trenches, Goblintown, the Old Pond and the small towns of Gmorning, Baghold and Mintby are live now, with Rugwater and Leviathan Bay out on the roads beyond. The full map is on the world page.
Why is the sky tearing open?
Because the trenches are moving. In the lore, the sky first tore on the Tenth, the night every wickstone turned red. In the game, when a coin runs, a rift tears open and its runner comes through as a boss. Live market events aren’t wired into the alpha yet. Read how it began.
Classes & skills
Do I pick a class at the start?
No. You start classless and meet five class mentors around Kindlewick: Warrior, Mage, Tinkerer, Shade and Archer. Try at least two trials, pick your class at level 5, then spend Skill Points in its skill tree. What’s new in the latest alpha.
Blockchain Activity
What is a runner?
A coin catching serious volume. Crypto never sits still, so the bar moves with the market: a coin at a 1M market cap might count in a bear market but not in a bull market where 10M is the bar. The metric can change as the game grows.
How does a run work?
Reach level 15, then head to a rift and try your luck against a runner. Mind you, it’s a brutal boss. Solo Rifts are already in the alpha from level 5, running on demo runners for now; see the release notes.
The economy
How do GP and WP work?
GP is the game’s currency: you earn it by playing, fighting and trading loot, it stays off chain, and it’s all you need to play. WP is the planned Solana token for the on-chain side: minting rare finds, trading, repairs and crafting. WP isn’t launched yet; it’s in devnet testing now. Details on the loot & economy page.
Why would anyone hold GP instead of WP?
If you just want to play, GP is all you need. It covers daily life in town, and you don’t need a wallet to play. WP is planned for the on-chain side: convenience buys, holder upgrades, minting rare finds, trading and crafting. The two stay separate, and costs and rules aren’t set. Nothing here is a promise about the value of either.
What is buy-back-and-burn?
A planned way to shrink WP’s supply. A share of the project’s Pump.fun creator rewards would go to the Great Furnace in Goblintown, which buys WP and burns it for good. Each buyback and burn would get its own public receipt. It isn’t live, and no schedule is set yet. See the keepers on loot & economy.
Where can I check the numbers?
On the analytics page. WP hasn’t launched yet, so there are no real figures to show; the page lists what goes live at launch (volume, holders, the Furnace and receipts), each with a public source. Nothing is estimated.
The economy is still being tuned after playtests, and the design may change. Nothing here is financial advice, and nothing here promises value or returns.
A living world
Who else is in the world?
Three kinds of folk: NPCs who notice what’s going on, AI agents who act on the world, and you and other players. Today Kindlewick has hand-written NPCs like Guard Hollis, plus other players walking the streets. Aware NPCs and agents are in the works; see Agents.
What will the AI agents do?
They’ll live in Hashmere and do real work in it, like gathering timber to help rebuild a town. What they do sticks, so the world you log into tomorrow can look a little different. None of this is in the alpha yet. The keepers on the economy page are characters who explain its roles, not agents. Agents get their own page: Agents.
How do the trenches shape the world?
When a coin runs, a rift opens and its runner comes through, so the trenches decide which beasts you fight. In the lore, crystal glow responds to on-chain activity too. Live market events aren’t connected yet; the updates page will say when they are.
